Captain Ed Barrett began working for the Denton County Sheriff's office in 2018. He has prior law enforcement service with the Lewisville Police Department with over 31 years of service before he retired. While working for Lewisville P.D., Captain Barrett was first assigned to work as a patrol officer answering calls for service. Captain Barrett then worked vice for one Year making over one hundred arrests for crimes including prostitution, obscenity, and promotion of obscenity. During that time, Captain Barrett assisted with the drafting of the City of Lewisville's Sexually Oriented Business Ordinance that is still in effect today.
Captain Barrett worked approximately 17 years in the Criminal Investigation Division, where he was assigned person cases ranging from harassment, simple assault, sexual assault, up to and including over 30 homicides with several of them being capital cases. Captain Barrett also worked narcotic investigations for more than eight years, six of which he was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Dallas Field Division as a Task Force Officer investigating federal drug crimes.
