1. Why start a Veterans' Coalition?

It is the right thing to do. It is the smart thing to do. Veterans are valuable community assets and, by their example, can help improve volunteerism and service for the benefit of all Denton County residents.

It is the fiscally prudent thing to do. Veterans who cannot overcome barriers to employment and who fail to successfully re-integrate back into civilian life can become a drain on social, medical, and legal services.

2. What will a successful Veterans' Coalition look like?

• It will be a voluntary partnership of veteran service organizations, non-profits, and governmental entities to provide the services our local veterans and their families need.
• It will consist of a network covering the entire county, where a phone call or an email referral will connect a veteran with the right solution.
• It will bring together the key players in the community, raise awareness of specific needs and resources available already, and channel this sea of goodwill to do the most good.
• It will utilize our veterans, who are experienced and talented problem solvers with a demonstrated willingness to our nation and our communities.

3. What can you do today?

• Plug into the Denton County Veterans’ Coalition as a board member, a service organization or entity volunteer, or with your donations.
• Commit to coming to future meetings and to sharing your expertise with Coalition members, with your organizations and entities, and with veterans.
• Help us raise awareness in your cities and organizations of both the needs of veterans and the potential value they can bring to our communities.

Collectively, we have the opportunity to foster a new "Greatest Generation" of veterans who will make our county and our country stronger.
