Good morning Judge and Commissioners
I am here to give you a brief update on the Denton County Courthouse-on-the Square Art Committee, which met earlier this month for the first time.
As you know, the committee includes five members of the community appointed by you as well as Judge Eads and Commissioner Mitchell. Several directors are providing support including myself, Peggy Riddle and Scott Arledge.
Mr. Arledge spent much of the first meeting explaining the procurement process and how it is confidential as per state mandate. The committee received a history of the Confederate Memorial as well as an overview of the Denton County Confederate Memorial Advisory Committee and its recommendation to Commissioners Court.
Background about the memorial and an overview of the new committee’s plan of action is available on a new website that has been created to keep the public informed. That website is www.confederatememorial.dentoncounty.gov. Let me repeat that: www.confederatememorial.dentoncounty.gov. An email submission form has been automatically added to the website.
The email account was established to give the public an opportunity to provide information and feedback for the committee. That email account is artcommittee@dentoncounty.com. Again, that email is artcommittee@dentoncounty.com.
During the meeting, the committee also discussed scheduling a listening tour for public feedback in the near future. The plan is to select three locations around Denton County that are easily accessible to the public and to schedule evening meetings so that it will be more convenient for the public to attend.
We will be providing regular updates both on the website as well as in upcoming Commissioners Court meetings.
Thank you for your time.
Dawn Cobb, Director of Community Relations, Denton County
