[ARCHIVED] Veterans Day Service on Denton Square

The public is invited to join the Denton County Veterans Service Office, Texas Woman’s University, the University of North Texas and other area service organizations for a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Courthouse-on-the-Square. 

The event begins at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, Veterans Day, and will feature bagpipes from the Denton Fire Department, Vietnam Veterans of America as Color Guards posting the colors in addition to a rifle volley and playing Taps, the American Legion will lead pledges and the ROTC will present the wreath at the All War Memorial on the Courthouse lawn.

Guest speaker for the 1-hour outdoor event will be U.S. Air Force Capt. Andi Tart. She served nine years as a pilot/aircraft commander in the U.S. Air Force. She flew the T37, T38 and EC-135 Looking Glass, becoming the only female aircraft Commander in that squadron’s history. 

After leaving the Air Force, she became an airline pilot for Delta Airlines, becoming the 76th female pilot hired by the company. She flew as a captain on a B-737. Currently, she flies the Airbus 330, mostly to Europe.

Capt. Tart is involved in her community, serving as vice regent of the Flower Mound Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as serving with the Women Military Aviators and Women Veterans of America. 

Congressman Michael C. Burgess will deliver a quick remark along with TWU Chancellor Carine Feyten and UNT President Neal Smatresk.
