[ARCHIVED] Funeral Services Monday for Chief Roland Asebedo

Roland Asebedo, 56, of Sanger, passed peacefully into his Heavenly Father’s arms, with his family by his side, on the afternoon of Monday, September 13, 2021. 

He was born on July 14, 1965, in Lockney, TX, to Johnny and Mary Asebedo. He graduated from Silverton High School in 1983. He studied Fire Science Technology at South Plains College. In 1985, he obtained his Basic Peace Officer Certification; was certified as a Master Peace Officer in 1998; and earned his EMT Certification in 1999. In 2002, he earned an Associates of Applied Science, Arson Investigator Master Certification, Firefighter Master Certification and Inspector Master Certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

Roland worked as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Plainview Fire/EMS Department from 1986 to 1989. He then served as Fire Marshal/Paramedic with the Plainview Department of Public Safety from 1989 through 1993. In 1993, he became Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal with the Plainview Fire/EMS Department where he remained until 1999. He served as Fire Chief of the Highland Village Fire Department from early 1999 to 2000. He then served three years as Assistant Fire Marshal with the Coppell Fire Department before being hired as an Emergency Management Intern for Denton County in 2004. The same year, he was promoted to Emergency Management Planner. In 2005, he was named Assistant Fire Marshal for Emergency Services. In 2007, his title was changed to Assistant Director of Emergency Services. On October 7, 2020, Roland became Fire Marshal and Director of Development and Emergency Services. 

He married Michele “Mickey” Carpenter on October 30, 2020. The couple enjoyed traveling to new locations and working with their horses. Roland was immensely proud of his children and spending time with them. He also enjoyed motorcycles, working out with Camp Gladiator teams and serving as a member of Ridin’ For the Brand Cowboy Church in Sanger.

Roland is survived by his wife, Michele “Mickey” Asebedo of Sanger; daughter, Lorrin Asebedo of Denton; son, Jordan Asebedo of The Colony; mother, Mary Asebedo of Silverton; brother, Able Asebedo of Silverton; sister, Marilyn Leal of Pottsboro; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Asebedo, and sister, Venita Howell. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Sep. 19, 2021, from 1–3 p.m. at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, TX. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lewisville, 1251 Valley Ridge, Lewisville, TX. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, 3801 Roselawn Drive, Denton, for family, friends, coworkers and public safety personnel only.
