[ARCHIVED] DENTON COUNTY HOSTS NATIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WEEK CELEBRATION - MAY 9-15, 2021

Denton County Economic Development Directors gather for breakfast at Courthouse-on-the-Square.

Denton County is marking National Economic Development Week from May 9-15, 2021 to celebrate the contributions of positive economic development and explain the role of the profession in our county, including stewardship of:

  • Policies that government undertakes to meet broad economic objectives including high employment, and sustainable growth.
  • Policies and programs to provide services such as building highways, managing parks, and providing medical access to the disadvantaged.
  • Policies and programs explicitly directed at improving the business climate through specific efforts, business finance, marketing, neighborhood development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, real estate development and others.

“Economic Development plays a significant role in ensuring the future growth and available workforce options for the foreseeable future,” said Denton County Judge Andy Eads. “To create and maintain a live, work and play environment countywide, we establish and continue to maintain connections across the region and U.S. to bring opportunities for everyone in Denton County.”

Now in its sixth year, National Economic Development Week was created by the International Economic Development Council, the largest professional membership organization for economic developers, in 2016 to recognize the unique role that economic development has in creating vibrant communities with strong economies.

Over the span of five years, more than 450 campaigns have been created throughout the United States and Canada, creating millions of impressions, hundreds of news stories, blog entries, videos, events and other activities.

Cities, counties and states recognized the week in past years through official proclamations, local community events, and informational campaigns online and through social media. The United States Economic Development Administration (EDA) has also issued a statement commemorating Economic Development Week in past years.

“Recognizing the importance of economic development is critical to the future of any county and, in particular, Denton County, which is among the fastest growing in the country,” said Michael Talley, Director of Economic Development for Denton County.

Denton County invited all county Economic Development Directors and staff to a breakfast early Tuesday, May 11, to encourage even more collaboration as the county attracts interest from many states.

“The more we work together, the more we help each other and the whole county,” Talley said.
