According to Emsi’s fifth annual Talent Attraction Index, Denton County is among the top 10 largest counties across the U.S. showing talent migration from larger metro areas. Joining Denton County among the top 10 large counties with populations in excess of 100,000 are Collin, Williamson and Montgomery counties – a strong indicator of the continued growth of the talent pool in Texas.
The fifth annual report assesses a number one priority: the attraction and development of a skilled workforce. Using the most current available data on population and migration, the index also measures the growth of jobs and skilled workers, regional competitiveness and education attainment to determine if counties are moving in the right direction in growing the talent pool.
The Talent Attraction Index showed midsize markets becoming more attractive options – a trend that existed before the pandemic and has become accelerated since, according to the report.
Remote work, which allows workers to migrate with relative ease, has made the attraction of midsize markets more possible for increasing the talent pool.
According to the index, 2020 has become “the most pivotal year in decades.”
“With our abundance of higher education institutions coupled with a growing diversity of job opportunities, Denton County is well positioned to continue attracting a strong talent pool for years to come,” said Denton County Director of Economic Development Michael Talley. “A strong talent pool is one of the best economic tools we can offer prospective employers.”
Denton County Judge Andy Eads points to the county’s proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth region, its ongoing development of key transportation corridors and a wide range of housing options as other key factors in the growth of talent in recent years.
“This coupled with the affordability factor of doing business here and the workforce having a variety of housing options makes Denton County even more attractive,” Mr. Talley said.
Judge Eads agreed: “We are perfectly positioned in DFW for residents to raise families, find fulfilling careers and have access to a plethora of activities making Denton County the best place to live, work and play.”
