Power Dressing: Women, Pants, and the Fight for Equality

Thursday, September 24, 2020

Join Texas Fashion Collection director Annette Becker in a romp through the 175 year-long history of women wearing pants and fighting for equality. We’ll pay homage to early women’s rights activists who donned “bloomers,” consider the bodily liberation facilitated by late nineteenth-century women’s workout clothing, celebrate the suffragettes who fought for the nineteenth amendment, and remember the pantsuit-wearing pioneers who made headway for women in the workplace. Annette Becker is the director of the UNT Texas Fashion Collection, an archive of nearly 20,000 historic and designer garments and accessories spanning over 250 years of fashion history. Becker holds a BA in Art History and English from the University of Kansas, as well as an MA in Art History from UNT, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in History. RSVP through Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link to attend this talk virtually or tune into Facebook Live.
