Division of Public Works Responsibilities

  1. 1.1 Under the Ex Officio Road Commissioner System the Public Works Department of Denton County is divided into two separate divisions: Public Works/Planning and Public Works/Engineering.
    1. With oversight by the Commissioners Court, the Director of Public Works/ Engineering shall supervise the operations of the Denton County Planning Division. Responsibilities of the Director to include:
      1. Subdivision Plat Review.
      2. Flood Plain Management.
      3. Issuance of Development Permits.
      4. Lake Ray Roberts Land Use Ordinance
      5. Real Property Information System
      6. Storm Water Management Plan
      7. Master Plan Space Study / Buildings
    2. With oversight by the Commissioners Court, the Director of Public Works/Engineering shall supervise the operations of the Denton County Engineering Division (Engineering Division). Responsibilities of the Director to include:
      1. Engineering plan review and site inspection for Subdivisions in all County precincts.
      2. Review of any SWPPP’s, erosion control plans or engineering plans that are currently required or may become required for the Denton County Storm Water Program and Denton County Storm Water Policy.
      3. Review of all CLOMR’s, LOMR’s or other engineering submittals required of the developers or entities that submit under the Floodplain Management Program.
      4. Engineering design of all County Engineering Projects and Roadway Construction Projects.
      5. Issuance of all County Utility construction permits.
      6. Management of the Denton County BRINSAP Program with each Director of Public Works having input on those bridges that fall in their respective precincts.
  2. 1.2 The Ex Officio Road Commissioners shall oversee the day to day operations of the Road and Bridge Department as they pertain to all the county roads and bridges within each Commissioners’ Precinct. Each Officio Road Commissioner shall:
    1. Report to the Commissioners Court the condition of the roads in the Commissioners’ precincts.
    2. Report to Commissioners Court on the character of work to be done on the roads.
    3. Direct the manner of grading, draining, and otherwise improving the roads:
      1. Ex Officio Road Commissioners for Precincts Three and Four shall make work assignments through the Argyle Branch Road Maintenance Facility with the respective personnel, tools and equipment assigned thereto.
      2. Ex Officio Road Commissioners for Precincts One and Two shall make work assignments through the Aubrey Branch Road Maintenance Facility with the respective personnel, tools and equipment assigned thereto.
