Since August 2008, the District Attorney’s office has been a proud partner with the Troy LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex and Dallas Independent School District supporting their Pre-Law internship Program. Each academic year, 12 to 15 seniors are selected to participate in the internship program.
Functions
Students come to the District Attorney’s office two times per week to be mentored by current Assistant District Attorneys and Investigators. The students are exposed to every facet of the criminal justice system from intake through trial and even appeals. They intern with many divisions of the office including:
- Civil, Appellate and Investigation
- Family Violence
- Felony Trial
- Intake/Grand Jury
- Misdemeanor Trial
They often times watch jury trials, review offense reports, participate in mock trial and moot court, and take a tour of the jail. The things they learn during their internship cannot be taught in a classroom setting. This exposure allows them to find out if the law is something they truly want to pursue in college and beyond. The program allows the office to give back to the community by helping students learn about the profession and the judicial system.
