Copies of Marriage Records

The Denton County marriage records go back to 1875. In 1875, the courthouse burned and the records were destroyed. Marriage records are recorded in the county where the marriage license was obtained, not the county where the marriage took place.

Online License Index

You are welcome to search the marriage license index on our website, Real Property Records Search website. You will need to select the "Marriage License" tab from the record options at the top of your screen. On this site you are able to research the Denton County marriage index at no cost. Images of marriage licenses are not viewable online, but can be viewed by visiting any of our locations.

Written Requests

If sending a written request, please include both names as they appear on the marriage license and the date of marriage. Non-certified copies of marriage records are $1 plus $1 per page. Certified copies of marriage records are $16 plus $1 per page. Your cashier’s check or money order should be made payable to: Juli Luke, Denton County Clerk. Written requests are normally processed within a day of receipt.
