History & Culture

Denton County History and CultureThe Denton County Office of History and Culture operates the 1896 Courthouse-on-the-Square and the Denton County Historical Park.

Mission

Our mission is to interpret our past, give context to our present, and provide a greater direction to our future. We are committed to the development and experience of Denton County history and dedicated to the cultural enrichment of our community. Our purpose is to welcome, inform, and inspire.

Place of Learning

We are a place of learning and discovery that provides educational opportunities and learning resources to the Denton County community as a public service of the local county government. Some of the ways we do this is by:

  • Offering:
    • Community programming
    • Historical lectures
    • In-school presentations
    • Museum tours
  • Maintaining a collection of artifacts and documents that have historical significance for preservation and posterity

Visit Us

Out of an abundance of concern for the health and safety of all visitors, volunteers and staff due to COVID-19, the Courthouse-On-the-Square Museum and Denton County Historical Park will be closed to the public until further notice.
As always, we appreciate your continued support in preserving and sharing Denton County's history and culture.

We invite you to join the conversation about history and education in the county and explore the many benefits that are available to you through the Office of History and Culture. Our office is open to everyone whether you are interested in volunteering, donating, touring, or just simply want to drop by. We can’t wait to meet you!
