Electronic Filing Of Justice Court Civil Cases

Programs

The court is promoting two programs that allow a more efficient way to file civil documents.

E-File Texas

Although the Texas Supreme Court has not mandated e-filing with justice courts, the Denton County Justices of the Peace accept cases through the E-File Texas filing system. All filing costs are paid through a credit or debit card.

E-File Texas Self-Help

The E-File Texas Self-Help program is designed to help a non-attorney plaintiff maneuver through the information needed to generate the necessary forms for initiating a cause of action. It works a lot like tax software such as TurboTax and TaxAct. The user is guided through a tutorial of questions and, at the end, the answers are populated to a form that can then be electronically filed or printed and filed at the court window during normal business hours.

Small claims and eviction cases are the predominate cases to file through this program.

Texas State Law Library

The Texas State Law Library serves the legal research needs of the Texas Supreme Court, the Court of Criminal Appeals, the Office of the Attorney General, other state agencies and commissions, and the citizens of the state.
