Sign-ups have officially opened for our Fall 2023 Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge program! Denton County Scouts have the opportunity to earn this Eagle-required badge with our office through 3 scheduled meetings at the historic Courthouse on the Square in Denton this fall. Scouts who sign up will get to tour the Courthouse on the Square (including the clock tower), interview Denton County Commissioner Ryan Williams, and, upon completion of their merit badge, receive an exclusive “I’m a Denton County Scout” button loop patch!
Spots are limited, so please only sign up if you are available on all three dates.

Meeting dates & times: Saturday, August 19, 11:30AM – What is Citizenship in the Community? Saturday, September 16, 11:30AM - Interview with Commissioner Williams Saturday, November 18, 11:30AM - Final Presentations
Short description of each meeting: What is Citizenship in the Community? - Scouts will bring in prepared prerequisite materials and start working with merit badge counselors on their Citizenship in the Community Merit badge. After a brief presentation on citizenship and community, scouts and parents will take a tour of the Courthouse on the Square, which includes an exclusive tour of the clock tower.
Interview with Commissioner Williams - Scouts will bring in completed homework to share with merit badge counselors. Scouts will have the opportunity to interview local Denton County Commissioner for Precinct 1, Ryan Williams, during this meeting to fulfill the merit badge requirement step 4b.**
Final Presentations - Scouts will bring in and present final presentations to fellow scouts and merit badge counselors.
**Commissioner Williams is only available to scouts for interviews during this allotted time frame.
