The Internal Affairs Division has the responsibility of conducting independent administrative investigations of allegations of misconduct or critical incidents involving members of the Denton County Sheriff's Office. The Internal Affairs Division will investigate external administrative complaints as determined by the Sheriff or Chief Deputy. The procedures established for the handling of administrative complaints assures the thorough investigation of incidents to determine if an administrative violation occurred. The Internal Affairs Division makes certain due process is afforded to all members of the Denton County Sheriff's Office in the discipline process. The member's chain of command determines and issues discipline, based on the findings of the Internal Affairs investigation. In addition the Internal Affairs Division is tasked with oversight of policy development and implementation for both the Operations and Detention Divisions.
